Chilean-American experimental artist Nicolas Jaar will headline the lineup at the 16th edition of Sonica, a festival of contemporary electronic music and transitory art.

The festival will feature concerts, club events, talks and exhibitions at different venues, including the Cukrarna Gallery, Kino Šiška and Cankarjev Dom.

This year's theme is Glocalisation, a hybrid of globalisation and localisation.

Co-curator Jaša Bužinel says they want to highlight the opposing forces of globalisation that are "pushing us into uniformity, similarity and universality, and local identities, convictions in traditions, specific for the environment, which make us special."

Jaar's concert at the Kino Šiška venue on 19 April, his first in Slovenia, will be a rare opportunity to see him perform live. After he stopped performing solo in 2017, he has been on stage only a few times, says Bužinel.
