    The Netherlands, or Holland as it is commonly called, is definitely one of the most instantly recognizable member states of the European Union. Carefully cultivated fields of tulips and other flowers, streaks of windmills adorning the countryside, narrow houses lining the canals of its charming towns and cities, clogs, cheese, the Dutch love affair with the bicycle and a liberal social atmosphere are just some of the images that spring to mind when thinking about the Netherlands. But the country is much more than merely that. With an often strikingly innovative approach to many social and economic challenges, it can serve as a role model to many, including Slovenia.
